First of all to prepare our delicious mulled wine we dedicate ourselves to the preparation of spices. Then, cut the lemon and orange zest very thinly, being careful not to remove the white part which would give a too bitter taste to the wine.
Take a pan, possibly made of steel and with low sides, pour in the sugar, cinnamon sticks, juniper berries, cloves and star anise. Then add the zest of our citrus fruits and finally pour the red wine. Bring everything to the fire and over a low flame bring the mixture to a boil. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes, always on a low flame and mix carefully to dissolve all the sugar well.
Let’s create a flame on the surface of the wine, in doing so the alcohol inside the wine will catch fire, let it ignite until it is completely extinguished, in this way the alcohol will evaporate. At this point we can filter the mulled wine using a fine mesh strainer. Our mulled wine is now ready to be served while still hot.
We do not recommend using non-stick pans during the boiling phase.
How to store wine:
You can keep the mulled wine in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Before consuming it, heat it in a saucepan.
